We have re-started the regular Sunday morning work parties for volunteers but ask everyone to bring their own tools, and coffee if wanted. This will enable us to work safely in relation to Covid 19 keeping more than 2m social distancing. Work parties take place on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. We meet at the Millennium Green at 10am and normally finish about noon.

Dates of regular meetings:
July12      July26      August9      August23      September13      September27

In July we will be concentrating on the second field cutting or pulling thistles, which have become very invasive, and cutting some of the large areas of nettles. Thick gloves and some sort of cutting tool required.

Later in the summer work will be more varied as we try to catch up with the usual tasks from litter removal and cleaning signs to clearing round the moat banks and raking up strimmed hay.

People of all ages and abilities are welcome and we do need new volunteers to help to maintain the Green into the future for the benefit of village residents.

In late August or early September strimming of the upper grassland is done and the cut grass needs raking up. We spread some of the cut grass on poorer grassland to spread wildflower seeds.

Throughout the summer the battle against nettles and thistles etc continues. We aim to keep the grassland clear of these species but they have their place round the edges as they are very good plants for butterflies and other insects.

The sheep will return to the second field probably in October where they are our main grassland management ' tool'.

We also hope to contiue to enjoy the wildflower grassland, butterflies and bird song in the sunshine as many people have done over the past few months  - for many it has been a a great solace during the Covid 19 restrictions and we were glad to be able to keep it open.

If you can help, even occasionally, or would be prepared to help with the extra
work parties during the week please contact
