A habitat for a diverse collection of wildlife.
Common Spotted Orchid
The Millennium Green has a rich diversity of grasses and flowers. Trustees manage the land to return back to wildflower-rich pasture land - to this end we have sheep grazing in the second field during the autumn/winter months.
There is a fine collection of insects and we are fortunate to have colonies of Marbled White butterflies that can be seen in June and July in both fields.
Birdlife is ever present with its accompanying bird song. We place about 30 nest boxes throughout the site to encourage breeding.
Mammals are also present, with squirrels and rabbits frequently seen. Some people have been lucky enough to see a deer. Field voles have been seen in both fields and occasionally foxes, weasles and stoats.
Finally do not overlook the fungi: again, we are lucky to get good displays of these at all times of year, depending on conditions and location.
