05/01/2021 In view of the new much tighter lockdown restrictions  fomal work parties will be cancelled until further notice - hopefully not for too long!

Volunteering

Picture
The maintenance of Inkberrow Millennium Green is done mainly by volunteers, through regular "working parties" and occasional additional weekday work groups as and when needed to complete particular tasks like clearing scrub on the island.

The regular working party meets at 10.00 am at the Green on the second and fouth Sundays of each month.  Although this usually means every fortnight, in practice where a month has five Sundays, there is a three week gap. The Sunday working party usually lasts about two hours.

No tools are required, though most volunteers bring loppers or other tools appropriate to the task  in hand.  Wellies and strong gardening gloves are useful too. Typical work involves coppicing, cutting back brambles, removing thistles and nettles, and raking hay - all dependent on the season. Periodically light construction work is undertaken, such as repairing steps or buiding boardwalks.

The planned  work programmes  with dates can be seen from the drop down boxes above

Why not make contact through this website, or just come along to the Millennium Green on a Sunday as above?  You will be assured of a warm welcome - and coffee (or tea if preferred) and biscuits at the end end of the work session!

Covid precautions. Please bring tour own tools as far as possible; an email is sent before each work party suggesting what to bring. Also hand sanitiser or wipes, mask for close work  though we will as far as possible work 2m or more apart, and your own refreshments if required

Around 500 man hours of volunteer time are spent maintaining the Green every year so new Volunteers are always welcome.  We appreciate help even if you can only get to the occassional work party or would just like to help with our weekday "events". No prior experience or knowledge is needed and age is no bar.  We have had volunteers from 5 to 80 !
